T R A S H C E N D I N G
In this use-and-throw society, constantly rushing and carelessly trashing, there is an urgent need to change, to transform, to transcend. TRASHCENDING means crossing a liminal space in our mind to become conscious of the transcendence of the act of littering, taking responsibility and action.Concept and choreography developed collectively by the performers: Julia Gómez Avilés, Francesca Kezich, Derrick Siu and Nhon Vo, as part of the 7th No Borders Project organized by UNITY SPACE. Premiered on January 5th 2019 in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

A round trip from Root to Crown
The 7 main chakras (Root, Sacrum, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, Crown) are connected by two energetic channels: Ida (feminine - yang energy) which flows from Root to Crown, and Pingala (masculine, yin energy) from Crown to Root; forming a double helix.A round trip from Root to Crown intends to represent this travelling energy that we all have in our body and rules our everyday life.
This solo is a journey,
from root to crown,
from infrared to ultraviolet,
passing through all the spectrum of colors. This solo is a ritual,
you will witness
my 7 chakras* spinning here,
one by one, getting aligned
as I dance.* The word “chakra” comes from Sanskrit and means “wheel” or “center”. They are round and colorful energetic centers, responsible of the energy flow in the body. They function as an apparatus that connects the physical and energetic body.

You see?
The creation of this choreography was commissioned by AKOM Ensemble. Julia co-worked with the composer Alberto Granados in the concept development of the piece. Inspired by the series of paintings ‘No connection’ by JFilament which led them to the concept of social blindness: “I don’t think we go blind. I think we are blind. Blind but seeing. Blind people who can see but they do not see.” ~José Saramago
This blindness doesn’t concern to the physical disability to see but to the psychic disconnection from what happens around us. We protect our emotional self by not letting it “see” the hurtful consequences of our actions, the ugly truth. We construct walls that enclose our own “reality”, not letting us see a global reality beyond. Performed at Codarts Theaterzaal and at Maaspodium, Rotterdam (May, 2016) Gallery Photography by Olivia Lecomte Poster design Julia Filament -

Ir
This piece was made as a collaboration with the Norwegian composer Amund J. Røe. The concept of this music piece was an excerpt from the poem "Ir" by Olav H. Hauge:...Det er ir i alt ein tek i, påstår Olai. Difor stend han i gummistøvlar og grev seg ned på blåleire og kaldvatn.
... There is unrest in everything one touches, Olai claims. That’s why he stands in rubber boots, digging himself down to the blue clay and cold water.
"Ir" was performed at the Big Day of DeDoelen, Rotterdam (March 2015), at the Brussels Contemporary Dance Competition (January 2016), at Art Attack Gallery, Rotterdam (April 2016) and at AURA+, Kaunas, Lithuania (May 2017)
